Houses around the foreshore of Lavender Bay can be seen. A ferry wharf is depicted in the centre of the image and a paddle-steamer passenger ferry can be seen approaching the wharf. The background of the image depicts the inner city environment of Sydney. Dawes Point can be seen in the centre left of the background. Walsh Bay can also be seen in the background. Numerous sailing vessels including three-masted barques can be seen moored at Walsh Bay. Identifiable buildings in the background of the image include The Sydney Observatory on Observatory Hill, the General Post Office tower in Martin Place and the Town Hall tower in George Street.
