Boulevard du Temple by Louis Daguerre
Earliest photo of a human (having his shoes shined). See notes for links to extensive info.
Paris, France, 1838
Photographer: Louis Daguerre
Nicholas Jenkins of Stanford University has done some serious sleuthing and figured out Daguerre's exact position at the time of photograph. Check out his most recent post on the subject.

If one superimposes the map Jenkins has marked with the location of Daguerre and shoe shine stand over a modern map of the area, it appears the exact site of the stand would today fall a few meters southeast of the monument in the center of the Place de la République.
